Hotel Team Skills FAQ

Everything people ask before putting Claude to work in a hotel back office. Not here? Write to info@msg2ai.xyz.

What it is

What are the Hotel Team Skills?

Eight free, open-source Claude Skills — one for every seat in an independent or small-chain hotel back office, plus a Vibe Coder that ships the hotel website and booking engine. Each skill is a SKILL.md file: a focused brief that turns Claude into a senior version of that role, fluent in hotel economics (ADR, RevPAR, GOPPAR, TRevPAR, flow-through, USALI).

Which hotel roles are covered?

General Manager, Front Office, Revenue Management, Finance & Controller, Food & Beverage, Housekeeping & Rooms, Sales & Marketing, and Head of Web (a Vibe Coder for the hotel website and booking engine). Install one or all eight — each skill is self-contained.

Do the skills work together?

Yes. They share one knowledge base and one property JSON, so they work together without you coordinating them. When you ask the General Manager for the monthly asset-manager briefing, it pulls pace from Revenue, the sales pipeline from Sales, ops health from Rooms / F&B / Housekeeping, and the financial flash from the Controller.

What is the shared knowledge base?

One folder of documents that every skill reads from and writes to — on Google Drive (most common), Dropbox, OneDrive, SharePoint, Box or Notion. It has ten folders, from 01-property-brief to 10-msg2ai-export, and the General Manager skill creates it for you if you don't have one. If you already have a hotel website, the GM skill can bootstrap it with Firecrawl.

Can I see what the skills actually produce?

Yes. The mock portfolio shows every artifact the eight skills produced for The Meridian Nashville, a fictional 174-key downtown Nashville hotel — three sample outputs per skill.

Cost and license

What does it cost?

The skills are free and open source (MIT). You pay for Claude — Claude.ai has a free tier and a $20/mo Pro plan that covers most hotels. AI Ambassador is a separate paid product (and the piece the Front Office skill leans on most for guest concierge).

What license are the skills released under? Can I use them commercially?

The MIT License. You can use, copy, modify, distribute and sell them — including for commercial hotel operations — provided you keep the copyright notice intact. Attribution is appreciated but not required.

Who built the skills, and what's the catch?

MSG2AI, which builds AI tools for hotels and hospitality. There's no catch: the skills, the website and the npm installer are all free. MSG2AI sells two optional paid products the skills know how to call into — AI Ambassador for guest concierge by SMS and WhatsApp, and ActionNotes for leadership-meeting capture. The eight skills work fine without them.

Setup

How do I install the skills?

Four ways: (1) run npx hotel-team-skills install (needs Node.js 18+) and the skills land in ~/.claude/skills/hotel-team-skills/ for Claude Code; (2) load the repo as a Claude Code plugin with claude --plugin-dir; (3) git clone the repo into ~/.claude/skills/; or (4) with no install at all, paste any SKILL.md into a Claude.ai Project's instructions.

Do I need to know how to code?

No. The browser path is just copy-paste into Claude.ai. The whole reason these are 'skills' rather than software is that the work happens in plain English — yours, going in, and Claude's, coming back.

What if our team is not technical?

That's the most common case. Use the Claude.ai browser path. Each team member loads whichever skill matches their role and starts a conversation — no terminal, no install. The Vibe Coder skill is the only one that benefits from someone who can hit the keyboard, and even there, the Vercel preview URL is what most people review.

Which AI tools do the skills work with?

They're written for Claude — Claude.ai in the browser or Claude Code on your computer, where they're picked up automatically from ~/.claude/skills/. Because each SKILL.md is plain markdown, you can also use it as an AGENTS.md file with OpenAI's Codex CLI or as a project rule in Cursor.

Do I need to connect my PMS or other hotel systems?

No. The skills work without any integrations. Connect the systems your hotel already runs — PMS, RMS, channel manager, POS, comp-set data, Gmail, Drive — and they get sharper: pulling real reservations, posting real revenue, dispatching real work orders. You only connect what helps.

Data, privacy and accuracy

Is my guest and ownership data safe?

Your conversations stay in your Claude account. The skills don't send anything anywhere on their own — the only data Claude sees is what you paste or what's reachable through integrations you choose to connect (PMS, RMS, Gmail, Drive, etc.). Treat guest PII, ownership data, and folio detail with the same caution you would in any AI tool: redact what you don't need to share.

Will Claude make things up about my hotel, my guests, or my ownership?

Claude will produce a plausible draft from whatever context you give it. The skills are written to ask for the missing pieces first — number of keys, market, room types, channel mix, fee structure — before producing output, and to read room types, rates and brand voice from the shared knowledge base rather than guess. Treat the first response as a strong first draft, not a final answer.

Should I review the output before using it?

Always. The output is a draft and you remain responsible for what you do with it. If a skill drafts a group contract, have a lawyer review it; an ownership statement or distribution, your controller; a tax filing, your accountant; a refund decision connected to your PMS, confirm before posting.

Are there versions for vacation rentals or conferences?

Yes — the same approach exists for other hospitality teams: Vacation Rental Team Skills (listed on msg2.ai) for vacation-rental management offices, and Conference Team Skills for conference organizing teams. The hotel skills are also listed on msg2.ai.
